From raylutz at LutzForAssembly.com Fri Sep 5 20:16:38 2008 From: raylutz at LutzForAssembly.com (Ray Lutz) Date: Fri, 05 Sep 2008 18:16:38 -0700 Subject: [ECDC Announce] Help Place LUTZ signs!! Message-ID: <48C1D9F6.8080504@LutzForAssembly.com> *SIGNS SIGNS SIGNS SIGNS SIGNS * *THIS IS SIGN WEEKEND! PLEASE HELP ASSEMBLE AND INSTALL SIGNS! * * Primary Sign Contact: Charlie Schultz - charlie-s at cox.net or 619-463-8134 * Sign Co-Chair: Rod Rippel - rodrippel at cox.net or 619-466-6462 Physical signs will be our primary means to inform the voter about the Lutz Campaign. They work 24 hours a day, and are already paid for. We need as many volunteers as possible to help assemble and install these signs. We have two sign sizes. * 14x22 double sided sign (1000 of these) - Used with a stake or cut in half for car-window use. * 28x44 sign single-sided sign, suitable for placing on a fence, barn, or in a window (100 of these). 1. *Assembly* (small sign). We are using a novel technique for sign installation! Instead of stapling the sign to the stake (and then watching it fall off as we pound the stake into the ground), we will be keeping them separate until the last minute. We will staple the two halves of the sign together using heavy-duty staples to create a pocket-like slot for the stake. Charlie will be coordinating assembling many of these signs in the next few days and is looking for volunteers to help. 2. *Pick up.* Pick up signs (both large and small signs) from the Lutz Residence, at *1010 Old Chase Ave., El Cajon, CA 92020* They are on the front patio. Contact Charlie for any special arrangements. 4. *Installation. * * General: When you install a sign, simply drive the stake in with a hammer, and then open the pocket in the sign and slide it over the stake. The large signs should be stapled to a wall or use zip ties to connect it to a fence. * Own Yard. You can put a sign or two on your own yard! (Some CC&R's don't allow it.) * Window: No matter where you live, you can always put signs in windows. Use the large sign if you can. * In the District: Generally in the public right-of-way on county roads they are allowed. Do not put in private property unless you have permission. * Place signs off the active part of the road but outside of fences. * Look for fences around culverts, etc. that are obviously owned by the county. Placing large signs on these is smart. * Slide signs over existing abandoned fence posts, etc. when convenient. * Not too many on back country roads. Only about 1 per mile or so. (keep our good reputation!) * KEEP TRACK OF WHERE THEY ARE PLACED - Write it down. We need to pick them up after the election. Signs can be reused or recycled. * Please send email to Charlie so he can keep track of placements. (charlie-s at cox.net or 619-463-8134) *Note on timing * Most cities allow placement of temporary political signs in public thoroughfares within 45 or 30 days of an election. I consulted with the Registrar of Voters and asked them if the word "Election" meant the final day of the election or the first day that vote-by-mail ballots are sent (60% of voters do this). They said it was reasonable to assume we could put them out now, but they really don't call the shots with the laws in each jurisdiction. We are going to go ahead and place these signs now based on that information from the Registrar of Voters. --Ray -- --------------------------------------- Ray Lutz, Candidate "Lutz For Assembly" 77th District 1010 Old Chase Ave. El Cajon, CA 92020 USA Voice 619-447-3246 http//www.LutzForAssembly.com Click to donate: http://lutzforassembly.com/donate.html -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Watch Mike on KUSI. Hello TEAM Lumpkin, Let's show the people of Poway how much support Mike has throughout our district by marching in their parade this Saturday. This visible show of support is critical to Mike's campaign. We have signed up for 25 marchers. So far we have 6 confirmed attendees, plus a shout out to the new SDSU Dem Club form Paul Schlomann to bring out a few more Mike supporters. Please respond to this email if you can make it this Saturday. We will meet at the intersection of Poway and Pomerado Rds. about 9:15 a.m. this Sat., Sept. 13. Look for check-in point A and entry # 44B. The parade actually begins at 10 a.m., but we must assemble early, and you will certainly be done by noon. Mike's interview with KUSI Channel 9 is scheduled to begin at 7:30 AM tomorrow morning. Junior was on this morning, so the bar is set pretty low for Mike to do an outstanding interview. There will be no question who will make a better congressman for those who watch both interviews. The Protests will occur in four separate locations, where Blackwater has expanded their operation past training and extensive operations in Iraq to set up mercenary training centers. In California, the rally will also protest against Blackwater's new foothold on the West Coast, only blocks from the Cal-Mex border in Otay Mesa, California. Blackwater opened the facility under clouds of subterfuge and obvious circumvention of local laws, finally using temporary restraining order issued by Federal Judge, a President Bush Sr. appointee, to muscle their way into the facility and avoid public hearings, environmental review and traditional public scrutiny. Contact Bonnie Douglas for more information -- 208.664-5659 On September 16, 2007, Blackwater guards shot and killed 17 Iraqi civilians in Nisour Square, Baghdad. Almost a year later, no one has been charged or prosecuted for the murders. Blackwater, a private army and mercenary headquartered in Moyock, NC with over $1 billion in federal contracts (primarily no-bid) since 2001, operates with impunity, not subject to either military or civilian law. Blackwater is associated with tax evasion, gun running, weapons stockpiling, recruiting death squad paramilitary personnel from Latin America and defrauding US taxpayers. Blackwater operates without oversight, transparency or accountability. The public is invited to attend all events to commemorate the Sept. 16, 2007 massacre and to express their views about the miscarriage of local laws, the inappropriate use of mercenaries for public security training, and the desire to have facilities shut down in Otay Mesa, California, North Carolina, and Illinois. "We were successful in blocking Blackwater's attempt to build 'Blackwater West,' an 824-acre paramilitary facility in Potrero," Carol Jahnkow said, Executive Director, Peace Resource Center of San Diego, referring to the proposed facility about an hour east of San Diego, California. "Blackwater's expansion across our nation must be stopped, and we can do it." For many, Blackwater represents the ultimate expression of the worst decisions made by the Bush administration and their extreme privatization agenda. "The way the Blackwater convoy shot into the crowd of civilians is symptomatic of a company that is out of control," Ray Lutz said, coordinator of Citizens Oversight Projects (COPs). "They strong-armed their way into this Otay Mesa facility, avoiding the usual public hearings and community oversight, mistreating the community just like the Iraqis in Nisour Square who were murdered just one year ago." North Carolina has the largest facility, over 6,000 acres, near the small town of Moyock. The locals recently turned down the request by Blackwater to operate dozens of shooting ranges until midnight, and are now pushing against a new proposed runway. In Illinois, Blackwater just installed a 3,600 sqft shoot house, sneaking past public scrutiny. In Idaho, locals stopped an agreement between the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Council that would make them a tenant in a Blackwater facility. Jeremy Scahill, author of the International and New York Times bestseller and the winner of prestigious Polk Book Award, "Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army" will appear on Sept. 30 in Spokane, WA, only 35 miles from the Idaho protest site. Scahill, whose book inspired the movement against Blackwater, is currently on a national tour to launch the fully updated paperback edition of his bestseller, featuring an expos? on the Nisour Square shooting incident. "Despite the deadly events of the past year, Blackwater's business has never been better," said Jeremy Scahill. "Amidst the scandals, controversies and allegations of killing innocent civilians, Blackwater continues to be rewarded with lucrative, multi-million dollar contracts from the federal government, all the while expanding its reach inside the US and now into California. The residents of Potrero and their allies were right to confront Blackwater as it attempted to open shop in their community on the US-Mexico border and the people of San Diego are justified in their deep concerns about Blackwater's facility in Otay Mesa." Lobbyists retained by Blackwater, like Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice, insured that Blackwater's contracts with the US State Department were renewed this past April. This, despite the Iraqi government having ordered Blackwater out of its country and the stonewalled investigation into the Nisour Square massacre. Although media reported the contrary, Blackwater has confirmed that it has no intention of leaving the security contracting business. Blackwater is expert at using influence peddling professionals like Womble Carlyle and its connections with the White House administration to remain free from harm and open for business. A Bush administration appointed federal judge recently forced the city of San Diego to allow a shell company created by Blackwater to open a training facility inside the city limits, within blocks of the Mexican border. The Bush administration has hinted at militarizing our border with Mexico, and Blackwater is positioning itself for future federal contracts to provide border security. In a democracy, it is the duty of each citizen to oversee the entire government. Unfortunately with our government now being so large, this task is essentially impossible, unless the citizenry works as a team. Each "COP" should select a board, council, commission, or elected official to watch and attend meetings as a representative of the public. COPs was heavily involved in activating locals in Potrero to resist the Blackwater facility in that quiet rural town. We represent a growing contingent of concerned individuals and groups including, but not limited to, human rights and peace activists, people of faith, civil libertarians, and veterans. BlackwaterWatch is primarily concerned about human rights violations and the absence of accountability for Blackwater Worldwide and others like them. We support the passing of legislation to ban private armies on U.S. soil, as well as the regulation of private contractors operating in a war zone, placing them under either civilian and/or military law. Womble Carlyle lobbyists representing Blackwater are: John Mashburn, former general counsel and policy director for Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., who is the top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee; and Mark Harkins, who was chief of staff to Rep. The California Nurses Association said that Lutz "...will do an excellent job in representing [the 77th] district on health, labor, woman's issues, and supporting single-payer healthcare and clean money elections which are important issues to Registered Nurses." Lutz supports continued robust funding of our healthcare infrastructure. Lutz pointed out that his opponent, in contrast, proposed cutting 117 oversight boards and commissions to save money in a January 10, 2008, press release, including a great many that deal with public health. For example, the Dental Board, the Medical Board of California, Board of Occupational Therapy, the Optometry Board, the Board of Pharmacy, the Physical Therapy Board, the Physician Assistant Committee, the Board of Podiatric Medicine, the Board of Psychology, the Registered Nursing Board, the Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians Board, and the Respiratory Care Board were all considered "redundant" and slated for the chopping block. "I think we've seen that gutting regulatory commissions can be much more expensive than keeping those commissions in place," Lutz said. "We're witnessing massive upheaval in the financial markets because of deregulation. I think my opponent is out of touch with the needs of the healthcare community and does not realize that tax payers don't mind paying for such oversight and regulatory bodies to insure high quality of care based on sound science and not quackery." Grossmont Hospital, the only full-service hospital serving East San Diego County, was recently put on notice that they may lose their Medi-Cal funding if they could not clean up their procedures after a number of preventable deaths were detected. "Clearly, abolishing these boards would be a huge mistake and would represent poor stewardship of our government, but is just the sort of ridiculous suggestion my opponent is famous for. It puts him in the bright lights of the media, but when examined carefully, is all talking points and no business points." The Grossmont Hospital has since improved their working procedures and has been recertified by the Medical Review Board. "I hate to think of what may have happened had my opponent had his way in January, eliminating that important layer of oversight." Lutz has made the establishment of an additional hospital one key goal of his campaign. "The East County is reliant on a single hospital at the extreme west site of the region, and is very inconvenient for residents in the growing communities of Lakeside, Alpine, Descanso, Campo and Borrego Springs. We need a new emergency hospital in the east county area." The California Nurses Association is a professional association that represents the largest number of registered nurses under collective bargaining agreements in California. It can be contacted at www.calnurses.org or www.nnoc.net. ### -- --------------------------------------- Ray Lutz, Candidate "Lutz For Assembly" 77th District 1010 Old Chase Ave. El Cajon, CA 92020 USA Voice 619-447-3246 http//www.LutzForAssembly.com Click to donate: http://lutzforassembly.com/donate.html -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We are still registering 10 DEM's to 1 REP. We will be set up again next month on the 17, 18, 19 & 20th. From 9AM to PM Every day. The 20th is the last day to register so I know this will be a very busy 4 days. If you can find some time to help we need you. I will need to have 2 people at the table most of the time, because if we did 138 this weekend we will probably do close to 300 the last weekend. Again I can't thank all the people who helped this weekend. Everyday counts now we are down to only 42 days to Nov. 4th, and only 28 days to get people registered. Please help her get elected by helping with her campaign From: Carroll Boone [mailto:carrollboone2008 at yahoo.com] Sent: Saturday, September 27, 2008 7:17 PM To: Kristy Mundt Subject: Seeking ECDC Individual Member Endorsments for Carroll Boone for Grossmont HS District Kristy, Would you be willing to distribute to your email list for me? Thanks, Carroll East County Democratic Clab Members, Thanks so much for your organizational endorsement! And I would like to have your individual endorsements as well! I am running for Grossmont High School Board against two incumbents and two other candidates. All four are endorsed by Republican leaders. The incumbents were among four trustees who voted as a school board to endorse Proposition 8 which would constitutionally ban same-sex marriage in California. I really need your help to get my name out as the only alternative candidate for Grossmont Union High School District Board. I also need your help in getting out the message that it is very important to vote down the entire ballot. Would you be willing to endorse me? If yes, send me an email including your name, location, occupation, and relationship to the school district, if any. You may also include a brief statement re your endorsement. Would you be willing to ask friends to endorse me? Just forward this email to you friends and elists. My attached flyer includes more information about me and my campaign issues and a list of organizational endorsers including San Diego - Imperial County Labor Council; San Diego Democratic Party; and La Mesa-Foothills and East County Democratic Clubs. A list of individual endorsers is also included. My website is www. voteboone.org. You can also go to www.smartvoter.org to visit my site there along with the sites of the other 4 candidates I am running against. I have also attached Carroll Boone Bumper Sticker and Car Window or Yard sign graphic files created by Nancy Goettler. Thanks,Nancy! Here are directions for creating your own signs. Print out (2 per page), cut in half, attach to your car bumper or window with: 1 or 2 strips of wide shipping tape (depending on the width), or clear shelf paper, cut to size. Cover the entire sign (this will protect it from the weather), with a border of 1/2" - 1" around the sign to adhere to the window. I know you are busy and want to thank you in advance for taking time to read about my campaign and for any support you decide to contribute.
